Talib Kweli has been a king of New York hip-hop who has an expansive international audience for over fifteen years. Kweli’s work with Mos Def on 'Black Star' (1998) still stands as one of hip-hop’s premiere expressions of truth. On 'Train of Thought',Kweli teamed up with Hi-Tek to form Reflection Eternal, a virtuoso hip-hop duo that continues to wow audiences and critics alike. In 2007, Kweli and DJ/Producer/MC Madlib gave their fans 'Liberation' - originally released free on the internet - an album that was filled with their joint love of the music they make and the respect their fans give them.

the blurb

SUNDAY 9TH OCTOBER
TICKETS £15 IN ADVANCE
DOORS FROM 7:00PM

“Debut jazz cafe show for legendary 90’s hip-hop group”

Das EFX is an American hip hop duo. It consists of emcees SKOOB & KRAZY DRAYZY, They rose to popularity in the early 1990s due to their affiliation with EPMD's Hit Squad. The duo gained critical and commercial fame with the release of their landmark debut album, Dead Serious, which highlighted their unusual rapping style which they nicknamed "sewage". Dead Serious went platinum and its lead single, "They Want EFX," reached the top ten on the U.S. Billboard R&B chart, the Top 40 on the Billboard.

As their career progressed, however, Das EFX's once-distinctive and unique lyrical delivery became more commonplace as other artists, including a young Jay-Z, imitated it. Derailed by the popularity of their own style, the duo slowed down their fast-paced flow, eliminated the iggedy suffix and downplayed their cartoonish content on their second album, Straight Up Sewaside.

The rest is history...

EPMD @ Jazz Cafe, London

Unknown January 17, 2011 , , ,

EPMD one of my personal Greatest of All time groups on the 18th of February. The raw

lyrics, spartan beats and business based albums defined an era. Don’t miss this one.

The blurb

Saturday 19th February 2011 (Doors 7pm)
@ The HMV Forum Kentish Town
9-17 Highgate Road, Kentish Town, London NW5 1JY

TICKETS £18.50 (+booking)
While the word legend gets thrown around with little regard these days it is fair to say that EPMD have truly earned the title through a consistent catalogue of genre shaping classics.. With the release of seven brilliant albums over a twenty year period there are few acts in Hip-Hop that have such a proven track record.

The combination of Eric Sermon & Parrish Smith is more than a sum of it’s parts and with the backing of the incredible DJ and the producer responsible for many bangers for EPMD and Busta Rhymes DJ Scratch they will be plowing through all-time Hip-Hop classics such as ‘You’re The Customer’, ‘Richter Scale’, ‘You Gots To Chill’ and more. As suggested by the titles of all of their albums these founders of the Hit Squad are all about business and it is live that all of their years of experience in the business come to the fore so this is the place to be in London for any real Hip-Hop fans.

Joining EPMD on stage are London’s equivalent in terms of class, experience and longevity Skitz & Rodney P. Having cut his teeth with the legendary London Posse, whose first release was actually a year before EPMD’s, Rodney P has been at the forefront of the UK Hip-Hop scene and secured that position through his longtime collaborative partnership with DJ / Producer Skitz.

The audience will also be blessed with sets from Spin Doctor who will be setting the mood with his own brand of Hip-Hop and soul gems.
